Apollo Program - Page 2

Give us, O God, the vision which can see thy love in the world in spite of human failure. Give us the faith to trust the goodness in spite of our ignorance and weakness. Give us the knowledge that we may continue to pray with understanding hearts, and show us what each one of us can do to set forth the coming of the day of universal peace. Amen.
-- Frank Borman, one of the first three humans to observe the far side of the moon, Apollo 8 Flight Journal

This image was taken on December 24, 1968 by the crew of Apollo 8, as the first humans left earth orbit and travelled around the moon. This "earthrise" photograph has proven inspirational to many.

Led by the pressures of competition, Apollo 8 was a very ambitious mission, well worth studying by anyone interested in space flight, and the history of humanity.
